The Invisalign process begins with your very first visit. At your initial consultation, we will answer your questions about the Invisalign process and determine your candidacy based on an evaluation of your orthodontic issues. Our Burbank Invisalign dentist can walk you through each stage of treatment and help you decide if this is the right course of action for you and your smile.
After your evaluation, we will take dental impressions and X-rays as the basis for your treatment plan. These records and images are digitized to create a 3D virtual model of your teeth. Each tooth in this virtual model is manipulated and moved incrementally until it is in its final position. The movements are then tracked and used to design your new aligners.
The aligners are made using a clear thermoplastic. This plastic is smooth, strong and free of BPA. It fits close to the teeth and applies pressure to specific teeth to guide them just a few millimeters at a time. You will wear your first set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only when you brush, floss, eat, or drink. At the end of the two weeks, you will move to the next aligners in the series, which will move your teeth just a little bit more. After the active phase of treatment is done, you will wear a retainer until your teeth are held into place properly by the bones and ligaments of your mouth.
Most patients complete treatment in about 12 months, but you may wear aligners for more or less time depending on your treatment needs. Give us a call today to learn more about how Invisalign works or to schedule your initial consultation.
